After Sh1billion loss that sunk Tuskys supermarket, Hipora stares at more losses as government deregisters its affiliate enterprise, falls out with its partners

The problems facing Hipora Business Solutions East Africa seems to be far from over after the government deregistered its affiliate company ,Hipora Security Solutions Limited, for failing to comply with minimum wage requirements.

Hipora Business Solutions East Africa is solely owned by Mr John Wanjohi after he fell out with his South African partner.

The deregistration of Mr Wanjohi enterprise occurred after it emerged that Hipora Security Solutions Limited pays its security guards a monthly salary of Sh12, 400 yet it receives Sh 39,980 from the clients

”We work at text book centre and i can tell you Hipora pays us peanuts of less than Sh 15,000 per month yet he gets nearly Sh 40,000 per head count from Text Book centre. At one time, Carrefour supermarket had to discontinue Hipora because its employees were stealing foodstuffs from the supermarket because they could not get paid on time and when it happened it was pure peanuts,” an employee of Text Book centre told this publication.

”As we speak, some of my colleagues who works at Eastmatt supermarket have not been paid but the supermarket has already remitted the money to Hipora. We are really struggling,” a Hipora staff at East matt Supermarket told this publication.

This comes a few years after insolvent Tuskys supermarket made the disclosure in a letter to Hipora Business Solutions East Africa, a firm it had hired to help curb rampant fraud within its shops.

“The audit report showed on average Tuskys is losing in excess of Sh100 million a month on top of costs associated with the [loss prevention] services,” Tuskys said in a letter dated August 25.

Tuskys’ estimated loss of Sh100 million per month indicates that employee theft across the retail industry could top Sh2 billion annually, making it one of the biggest victims of internal fraud alongside commercial banks.

The retailer said video footage has shown some cashiers pocketing cash, failing to issue receipts and walking away from the tills and leaving cash drawers unlocked.

Other firms that have been deregistered include Senaca East Africa Limited, Superb Marketing Solutions Limited, Salama Fikira International (Kenya) Limited and Bedrock Security Alarms Systems and Product Limited.

Others are Victory Protective Services Africa Limited, Victory Consultants Limited, Bedrock Security Services Limited and Marco Security Limited.
