Kamore Villa Muthagania was among the top students in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams after attaining an A of 84 points out of a possible 84 points.
During an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, January 10, Kamore stated that this would not have been possible without the help of the Cooperative Bank Foundation.
The Cooperative Bank Foundation is an education scholarship scheme for bright students who have financial difficulties in paying school fees for secondary and university education.
Kamore who comes from a humble background in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, remarked that he was close to missing his dream school before Cooperative Bank stepped in.
“I went to Gathiru Primary School and managed to score 406 marks and I was admitted to Kagumo High School which was my dream school but things were challenging for me,” he explained his arduous journey towards academic excellence.
He explained that at the time when he was preparing to join Kagumo High School, his father was bedridden and could not manage to see his son through school.
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors Cooperative Bank because they came to me and picked me up at a time when I was desperate,” the young boy expressed his gratitude.
He narrated that when the Cooperative Bank Foundation stepped in, he was at a point of despair thinking that his hopes were dimming.
Kamore promised himself that he would work hard and make his dad proud, but his father did not make it that long to witness his son’s achievements.
“When we broke for the first term, we lost our dad,” the star student narrated.
Despite the loss, the young boy worked hard and managed to top the national examinations. He remarked that he was happy that he had made his brother and mother proud.
Kamore’s story resonates with over 10,000 needy students who have received similar support from the Cooperative Bank Foundation.
“We believe that education is an equaliser and a tool to address poverty. We enhance access to quality education by targeting children from disadvantaged family backgrounds and providing scholarships that cover tuition, uniforms and books,” the Bank speaks of the program.
